We’ve run out of room where we are in Condies Arcade and the building is going to be renovated so we’ve had to shift everything into storage. Compulsory closure of the museum in March due to COVID 19 has really knocked our income about and will make it hard to afford the move. Thankfully Gympie Regional Council has lent a hand and given us a storage shed to keep everything safe and sound for a while.
Moving everything into storage on Saturday was a walk in the park. We had plenty of help from the crew at Bendigo Bank and the Friends of the Museum who really put their back into it.
We’re not looking for a shoulder to cry on,
but we do need a hand! We have the opportunity to move to the historic Surface Hill Church just up the road on Channon Street.
It’s a really special building built in 1890 that will give us more parking, more exposure, more room and more scope to run events. It will also open up the building to the public again after a long time and there are so many wonderful local stories of family events in the church to record and preserve before they are lost forever.
How you can Help
It’s expensive to move and reset our exhibits in a new venue and COVID-19 has been a big setback for the museum. So we’ve started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help to cover the bond and setup expenses. After just one week we are already almost half way to our $6000 goal!
We know it’s a shocking time to be fundraising with everything going on, but please help any way you can. Every donation will help no matter how much you can give. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to our gorgeous little town. Please click through to GoFundMe to give us a hand!
We’re looking forward to a huge opening day celebration with free entry for all our lovely donors. You’ll officially be part of the skeleton crew so “come and see what you’ll look like later!”
