Here at the Gympie Bone Museum, we are excited to announce we are starting our first ever science club – the STEAMPunks!
Since putting the idea to the community we have seen plenty of support and interest. Is your child interested in anything sciency? Are you currently raising a budding neuroscientist? Would you like to have your child learn about various types of science in a fun and relaxed environment?
We will be accepting registrations for young people aged 8-17 years old. If we have enough registrations to allow we will hold separate sessions for under 12’s and over 12’s. Children turning 8 this year are welcome to apply.
Our mission is to teach science to children in a way that allows them to be hands on, to explore science at their own pace and to inspire the next generation of doctors, scientists, conservationists etc. We are also passionate about educating children to be able to decipher between real and “junk science” and develop critical thinking skills they can take into adulthood with them.
Your STEAMPunk will receive high quality education by Debra Cook who has a background in education and chemistry and is also one of the founders and Science Directors of the Gympie Bone Museum. She will facilitate fun hands on experiments and projects with content that your children can utilise and give them a head start in future science studies.
We are hoping to start in the weeks following the Easter Holiday break, this start date will depend on how soon we can get the number of registrations required.
There will be ten lessons in total, held on a fortnightly basis, Thursdays 4pm-5.30pm. We will take a break through the school holiday periods. We expect our young scientists to treat this in the same way as they would any other after school activity or sport – make a commitment, give your best and be a good teammate.
Sessions will be held at the Gympie Bone Museum which is located at Shop 8, Condies Arcade 163 Mary St Gympie, Queensland.
Costs for the ten sessions is $250 per child and includes all materials and supplies with no more overheads like uniforms or trips away. Payment will be charged as a ten lesson block. Parents will be invoiced by email and your placement is not complete until full payment is received by the Gympie Bone Museum. Please complete a separate form for each child.
If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask by emailing Debra at gympiebones @ gmail.com
